ALBA and Interseroh+ congratulate record cup winners ALBA BERLIN

"Albatrosses" make history +++ 22nd title in 33 years of partnership - eleven times cup winner, ten times German champion, one time Korac Cup champion

Berlin/Cologne. Title sponsor ALBA and main sponsor and environmental partner Interseroh+ congratulate the ALBA BERLIN basketball team on winning the 2022 Cup! With this eleventh title, the "Albatrosses" are the sole record cup winners of the German Basketball Bundesliga. In a hard-fought final, the team led by captain Luke Sikma defeated Hakro Merlins Crailsheim 86:76 in a hard-fought final on Sunday afternoon.

"We can be proud of our team," said Dr Eric Schweitzer, CEO and owner of the environmental services provider ALBA. "Team spirit, commitment, good teamwork - in basketball, as in our company, this is the basis for success." Markus Müller-Drexel, CEO of the recycling alliance Interseroh+, also sees parallels with his own company: "Sustainability is the key, in sport as in business. Interseroh+ closes material cycles in packaging recycling and thus ensures sustainability and climate protection. ALBA BERLIN has a number of players from its own youth programme in the winning team - that's sustainability. The record title has also brought the ALBA basketball team full circle."

The last time ALBA BERLIN won the title was in 2020; the first cup win was back in 1997. The record was also a first for Head Coach Israel Gonzales: he has been in charge of the team since this season and has a title to show for it. However, the professional team does not have much time to celebrate. They already have to return to the court on Thursday evening in the Euroleague, at French representative Asvel Vielleurbanne.
