Interzero receives 2024 German Sustainability Awards
At Interzero, we are leading the way to a future worth living by thinking ahead, bringing innovative ideas to life and using our integrated “zero waste solutions” to demonstrate how a truly circular economy can work.
The expert jury highlighted Interzero as a pioneer of urgently needed sustainable transformation and trailblazers for the circular economy of the future. This is an emphatic endorsement of our work and provides recognition that we can all be proud of. It encourages us to continue directing all of our passion and effort into creating a world without waste and a future worth living, one in which waste is avoided as much as possible and raw materials are systematically recycled. After all, the fact is that closing material loops plays a major role in conserving resources and reducing climate-damaging emissions. We need a systematic, integrated closed-loop economy to maintain the quality of life on our planet.
Clearly proven environmental benefits
We provide valid figures to demonstrate the ecological benefits of recycling. Scientists at Fraunhofer UMSICHT have been investigating the concrete effects our work has on the climate and resources for 15 years:
- According to UMSICHT’s “resources SAVED by recycling” study, in 2022 Interzero saved more than 8.7 million tonnes of primary raw materials and avoided around one million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions by managing about 2.1 million tonnes of recyclables in a closed loop.
- According to the calculations made by the Global Footprint Network (GFN), Earth Overshoot Day in 2023 would have been reached 7:16 minutes earlier globally or 4:20 hours earlier in Germany without Interzero’s efforts.

Interzero’s social engagement also focuses on sustainable development, one example being the long-standing partnership with basketball club ALBA BERLIN. As a sponsor and environmental partner, Interzero supports the multiple German champion and cup winner in becoming a top team also in terms of sustainability. And it’s successful, too: ALBA BERLIN was also nominated for the final round of this year’s German Sustainability Award in the Sports Business category.
