Circular Recycling Solution for XPS Construction Waste with Convenient Collection Service

Recycling of polystyrene foam waste in the construction industry

Berlin/Cologne. The Association of Extruded Foam (Fachvereinigung Extruderschaum e.V. / FPX e.V.) has launched the circular recycling solution ‘XPS-Circular’ for recycling XPS construction site offcuts. The association is cooperating with the logistics service provider ecoservice24, which belongs to the Interzero Group.

Customers of FPX e.V. member companies Austrotherm, Bachl, Ediltec, Ravago and Ursa can now conveniently use the nationwide disposal service of the online portal www.ecoservice24.com. XPS offcuts and scraps collected separately in bags are picked up and directly sent for recycling. The manufacturers then reintegrate the recovered granulate into their production process for XPS.

"By using ecoservice24 from Interzero, we establish a genuine closed-loop system that significantly contributes to CO2 reduction and is very user-friendly due to the easy online ordering of the bags and their pickup. This is a major advantage for our customers," says Alexander Sinner, Chairman of the Board of FPX e.V..

Buildings are a major contributor, accounting for 40 percent of CO2 emissions. Therefore, effective thermal insulation is crucial in achieving collective climate goals. As an innovative special insulation material, XPS is used for demanding building physics requirements, for example in foundation slabs, perimeter insulation, flat roofs and green inverted roofs. Over its entire life cycle, XPS saves a hundred times its manufacturing energy and CO2 emissions, making it an unbeatably sustainable insulation material. Compared to other building materials, XPS's low carbon footprint makes it superior to many alternatives in terms of sustainability.

"The member companies of FPX e.V. have already been developing and optimising their recycling for 30 years. Production waste is consistently recycled and fed back into the production process. The new offer with ecoservice24 is another step in this direction. For us as a circular service provider, this is an ideal use case for our digital-based zero waste solutions," explains Jan Peters. He is Head of ecoservice24 and Digital Business Development at Interzero.
