Interseroh Austria further expands its engagement at REMEDIA TSR in Italy

Vienna. Interseroh Austria, a subsidiary of the ALBA Group, one of the world’s leading recycling and environmental services providers, is further expanding its strategic partnership in the WEEE area with Milan-based Italian firm Consorzio REMEDIA. Earlier than planned, Interseroh Austria has acquired a further 40 per cent in its subsidiary REMEDIA TSR; it now holds a total of 80 per cent of the shares in the company and is thus the majority shareholder.

REMEDIA is the leading collection system for waste electrical (and electronic) equipment and batteries in Italy. It generates a turnover of approximately EUR 30 million and has 250 partners in the logistics sector and 30 in the recycling industry. In 2018, REMEDIA collected approximately 125,000 tonnes of electrical equipment at the end of its lifecycle across Italy and led it to re-use or to environmentally friendly recycling. The demand emphasises the strong concept and quality. Last year alone, the company acquired 840 new customers. Numerous of the world’s biggest electrotechnology and electronics manufacturers are partners of the REMEDIA consortium, including industry giants such as Samsung, Electrolux, Panasonic, Mitsubishi, Daikin and Hisense.

Interseroh and REMEDIA want to expand innovative solutions in the ReCycle and ReUse areas further in Italy as well. Interseroh Austria is thus vigorously continuing its expansion and growth strategy and is strengthening its presence in the Italian market, which will offer large and interesting potential in the area of the return of packaging, waste electrical (and electronic) equipment and batteries in the next few years. Together with Interseroh Italia, Interseroh Austria thus wants to offer its national but also its international customers a wider range of services and become a leading market participant in Italy.

“We are very pleased to complete our call option to acquire a further 40 per cent of REMEDIA TSR six months earlier than agreed,” says Interseroh Austria Managing Director Martin Ulke, who has chief responsibility for the partnership. “Together with our strategic partner, Consorzio REMEDIA, we will offer new services along the value chain in the field of waste electrical (and electronic) equipment and packaging as of 2020.”

Additionally, the participation in REMEDIA offers the advantage of stronger cost efficiency due to recycling of the waste equipment in the Austria-Northern Italy-Slovenia triangle. Further, there is to be an even stronger integration of existing strategic Interseroh suppliers into the REMEDIA system as well as an exchange of expertise in the areas of collection and sorting.
